Hello dear readers of MyLifeCoachingHub,

Five years ago, in 2021, I stepped away from teaching and mentoring students at the university. It was a chapter I closed with mixed emotions, but one that left me with lasting connections. Just a few days ago, I had the privilege of reconnecting with one of my most memorable former students—a woman who was always authentic, headstrong, intelligent, and full of fire. Conversations with her were invigorating, challenging, and deeply engaging.

She shared a story that left me in awe. A few years back, she suffered a severe accident that plunged her into a coma. Upon waking, she had to relearn the basics: walking, speaking, even retrieving memories. Yet, as she recounted her journey, it wasn't the hardship that dominated her narrative—it was her profound sense of wonder at life and the world around her. She spoke of rediscovering the simple miracles we often overlook, achieving what even medical experts deemed impossible for the average person.

I listened with admiration, thinking to myself: What incredible strength. I'm honored to have people like her in my network—individuals who embody resilience in its purest form. This encounter sparked a deeper reflection: How much more could we enjoy our lives if we practiced gratitude for the beautiful things we take for granted? We fret over trivial matters that, in the grand scheme, hold little importance. Why do we do that?

And imagine: What would the world look like if more of us tapped into that inner strength she displayed? A place filled with more appreciation, less worry, and greater wonder.

A Coaching Perspective on Gratitude and Strength

Stories like hers align beautifully with positive psychology principles. Martin Seligman's PERMA model reminds us that Positive Emotion (like wonder and gratitude) and Accomplishment (overcoming "impossible" challenges) are key to flourishing. Research shows that daily gratitude practices—such as journaling three things you're thankful for—can rewire the brain, reducing stress and enhancing joy.

Viktor Frankl's logotherapy echoes this: even in adversity, we can find meaning by choosing our attitude. My former student's journey exemplifies this—turning trauma into a lens of appreciation.

In coaching, we often explore these themes: shifting from scarcity mindsets (focusing on worries) to abundance (embracing what's good). It's about recognizing that resilience isn't rare—it's within us all, waiting to be awakened.

Closing Thoughts

Let's take a page from her book: Pause today and marvel at the ordinary. Your ability to walk, talk, remember—these are gifts. By cultivating gratitude, we not only enrich our own lives but contribute to a more compassionate world.

Have you had a moment that reignited your sense of wonder? Share in the comments—I'd love to hear.

With warmth and inspiration,
