Dating in 2026: Where Has the Magic Gone?

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the My Life Coaching Hub blog.

Today I’m sharing something very personal. After 25 years in a long-term relationship, I found myself single again. My own coach gently challenged me to go on 5 dates. At first, it felt quite vulnerable, but it turned out to be one of the most insightful journeys I’ve taken.

Here’s what unfolded:

Date 1 was very physical and sensual. It was exciting and brought me fully into the present moment, yet it left me reflecting on how much I still longed for emotional closeness alongside the physical connection.

Date 2 opened into a tender conversation about our past experiences. It felt deep and honest, though emotionally quite intense.

Date 3 created a beautiful soul connection. For a while, it felt truly magical and heart-opening.

Date 4 was a pleasant and light conversation. It felt safe and easy, yet there remained a gentle emotional distance between us.

Date 5 was perhaps the loveliest of all — a warm, genuine connection paired with a strong sense of independence and detachment from his side.

Five dates. Five different energies. And through each one, the same quiet question kept returning: Where has the magic gone?

We present our best photos and carefully written profiles. We swipe, we match, we hope. But in the process, how authentically do we show up? And how open are we to truly seeing each other?

Dating in 2026 acts as a gentle mirror. It reflects our attachment styles, our boundaries, our needs for validation, and our heartfelt desire for real connection. Research supports this: modern dating often highlights our own inner patterns and growth areas (Sammani, 2025).

Still, I see beautiful shifts happening. More people are choosing “clear coding” — openly sharing their intentions. There’s a growing focus on emotional connection, shared values, and authenticity rather than perfection (Tinder Year in Swipe 2025, Plenty of Fish trends).

The magic hasn’t disappeared. It has simply taken a new form. It lives in the courage to show up as we are — with our tenderness, our scars, and our hopes. It grows when two people can sit together, without performing, and allow something real to unfold.

Dating has become a meaningful path of self-discovery.

If this touches you, I’d love to support you on your own journey.

With love,
