During my walks with my dog, I meet remarkable people and occasionally have deeply meaningful conversations. Connections form, and sometimes friendships or work relationships blossom. Yesterday, the afternoon heat slowed my Westie’s pace. But when he spots a friendly face, he dashes over to greet them, which is exactly what happened.
A 21 year old young man approached kindly and began to cuddle my dog. We struck up a conversation. He said I reminded him of his mother, currently abroad, which created an instant bond. He shared his passions for sports, music, and architecture, along with his thoughts on his studies. I opened up about my journey, from architecture to teaching at university, working with gifted children and youth, governance, coaching, and management.
He chuckled, “With you, it goes in all directions!” I smiled warmly and replied, “This is all part of my journey. I encounter new things I need at different life stages, dive into them, gain knowledge, and build more tools. It adds depth and makes me a better person.”
This exchange reminded me how every meeting can enrich us. How do these unexpected moments shape your path? What new skills or connections have you gained from life’s detours?
